My Connection to the Incline Village Crystal Bay Community

I have loved our Incline Village Crystal Bay community since my parents brought our family here in the late 1960s and 70s for skiing in the winter and fishing, boating, and swimming in the summer.  My mother eventually purchased a condo here in the late 1970’s that I loved to visit, which cemented my everlasting affection to this community.  Eventually while I was starting my NASA career and married my wife, Mary Jane, we were unable to make it back to Incline/Crystal Bay for a while, yet its memories were ever present.  In the late 90’s and through the 2000’s we used our Stepmother’s condo on Southwood for many family vacations with our children Stephanie and William.  Skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing in the winter, fishing at Stampede and Boca reservoirs, golfing at the Mountain course, rafting on the Truckee, riding jet skis on the Lake and of course taking advantage of our beautiful beaches in the summer.

As our children began their adult lives, in 2010, my wife and I began to look for our new permanent retirement residence in the Incline Village Crystal Bay community.  We were very fortunate to find and purchase a beautiful home on lower Tyner in 2012.  I was able to retire from my NASA career in late 2014 and moved into our community full-time.  I lived and worked as a high technology consultant while my wife continued her career at Stanford University.  As a full-time resident I was able to immerse and experience our special community to its fullest including getting to know a very special and one-of-a-kind Father Bill from St. Francis.  I was able to meet and foster friendships not only from church but by frequenting many of our wonderful places for socialization.  I also started attending our Trustee Board meetings to begin to understand how our community operates.  In March of 2020 my wife, due to the pandemic, joined me at our mountain home.  She always shared my love for the Lake and over the last few years fully immersed herself in our adopted community.  She has made many friends and started golfing with the Niners.  We love and enjoy all the venues and experiences living here including our golf courses, hiking from Chimney beach to Whale rock or up Tunnel Creek to Monkey rock and beyond to chick-a-dee ridge, Diamond Peak, exercise classes at the Rec Center and many many more.

We love to wake up every day looking out at the Lake, still not believing how very fortunate we are to live in this wonderful place.
