About Me

I mentioned before my great love for this Incline Village Crystal Bay community.  I want you to know a little about me and my history.  I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area where I attended elementary and high school.  I attended college at the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo graduating in 1982 with an Aeronautical Engineering degree.  I joined NASA at its Ames Research Center in Moffett Field California where I worked for 32 years prior to retiring to Incline Village in 2014.  I started as a flight test engineer working on research to enable helicopters to fly safely and effectively at night and in bad weather at low altitude.  In parallel with this work, I pursued and received a graduate degree in Aerospace Engineering from Stanford University in 1986.  I then transitioned to research on concepts and technologies to enhance the safety and efficiency of the Nation’s Air Transportation System.  I developed and implemented a technology that is key for air traffic controllers to proactively recognize and mitigate the buildup of aircraft congestion.  I was then promoted to a supervisory position managing 30 engineers and scientists with a $8,000,000 annual budget developing software and technologies to further enhance the safety and efficiency of the air traffic control system.  I was then promoted again to project and program management eventually advocating and developing a $500,000,000, 10-year program supporting many concepts and technologies to assist the FAA to modernize the Nation’s air traffic control system.

Over my career at NASA I received many awards including 3 NASA medals for Outstanding Leadership, Special Achievement and Exceptional Technology Achievement.  At the end of my career, I was also awarded NASA’s prestigious Software of the Year award for my final technological achievement.

Upon retirement in late 2014 I joined a couple of consulting firms working for both the FAA and NASA.  I worked from my Incline home and traveled extensively throughout the U.S. During this time, I got to thoroughly know Incline Village and the Lake including all its amenities and venues.  I retired permanently in 2021 to fully enjoy retirement with my wife. We both have been active in the community with both social and service organizations.  I am a board member of the Tahoe Incline Golf Club and a current member of the IVGID Golf Advisory Board.  My wife is an active member of the Mountain Niners.  We thoroughly enjoy working at the Incline Elementary School’s “Read with Me” program and volunteering at the Veteran’s annual 4th of July picnic. You will see both of us walking along our roads picking up trash to help keep our community clean.  For the last few years, I have participated in our Senior Conversation Café program providing an unvarnished view of current issues and challenges within our community.

I have always strived for excellence and try to find ways to give back to our fabulous community.  This has led me to the desire to utilize my management, supervisory skills and commitment to others to help our community grow and thrive.
